Overview 

The second largest police force in the UK, West Midlands Police serves a population of almost 2.8 million and deals with more than 2,000 emergency calls per day. 

To support their critical services to the public, the organisation required a more reliable and cost-effective solution. Capita now offers the force an on-demand (break-fix) contract for IT support and has led several projects resulting in efficient policing services to the public. 

What’s involved? 

As West Midlands Police have their own IT staff on-site, they required a reliable and cost-effective way to ensure their IT operates efficiently. 

Capita now offers a break-fix support contract for servers, storage and hardware, including Oracle sun and HP servers, HP and Oracle hardware, Solaris support, and Dell servers. This gives the force peace of mind their IT is operating smoothly while being economical. 

Over the years Capita has also supported the force with a number of projects including relocation of their data centre, technical consultancy and advice services, disaster recovery services, and virtualisation across two different sites.

Impact

Delivery of a break-fix service means that West Midlands Police receive the support they need but only when they need it, ensuring that costs are kept to a minimum during a period of budget constraints. 

The stable and robust systems put in place by Capita reduces the number of physical machines on-site reducing their environmental footprint, as well as ensuring users can carry on seamlessly with their day to day activities and provide efficient policing service to the public.
